Maryland Waterways Foundation (MWF) was founded in September 2019 by Sam Weaver and Karen Wynn. We are based at Weaver’s Marine Service on Back River and will be concentrating on the Upper Back River and Bear Creek areas but are committed to working in any area and with any group to clean up and improve the health of our Maryland Waterways and the Chesapeake Bay.
While MWF is a newly formed, grass roots organization, we are not new to cleaning up our waterways. We have been organizing cleanups with volunteers, community organizations and working with local businesses for more than five years in Southeast Baltimore County, preventing millions of pounds of trash and dangerous debris from entering the Chesapeake Bay.
The co-founders are collectively on the board of the Marine Trades Association of Baltimore County, the Hart-Miller Pleasure Island Citizen Oversight Committee, Friends of Hart Miller Island, Baltimore County Commission for Environmental Quality, Baltimore County Green Alliance and, Eastern Baltimore County Task Force. Active members of Coastal Conservation Association, Sussex Community Association, Essex-Middle River Civic Council, Riverside Yacht Club, Baltimore Yacht Club, Chesapeake Commodore’s Club, Yacht Clubs of Maryland, Chesapeake Bay Yacht Clubs of Maryland and work closely with various business and community associations. We are eager to work together with your organization, the more we come together and collaborate on ideas and projects, the bigger the impact we can all make.
